*Update October 29, 2021.On October 21st, the federal government of Canada removed it’s global advisory related to Covid-19. As of now, non-essential travel to Argentina is permitted.
The International Teams Committee and CODA have welcomed this news with great relief. After reflection and discussion, the ITC has recommended sending teams to IODA events and the board of executives has agreed. A team will represent Canada in the 2021 South American Optimist Championship in Mar del Plata, Argentina, December 11-18.
In 2020, a Canadian team of nine (9) sailors was registered to participate in the South American Optimist Championship. Due to Covid, the event was postponed only days before it was to start in March 2020.
A team selection process was initiated in August 2021, five sailors were selected during this process, one (1) female and four (4) male sailors. CODA has maintained it’s nine (9) paid registrations from 2020 and wishes to send a complete team to Argentina.
A new selection process will begin now and end Sunday, October 31st at 11h59pm EDT. The International Teams Committee is looking for four (4) or five (5) sailors to complete the team. In order to respect the gender ratio, the next available spot must go to an Opti Girl.

Le Comité des Équipes Internationales et CODA ont accueilli cette nouvelle avec un grand soulagement. Après réflexion et discussion, le CÉI a recommandé d’envoyer des équipes aux événements IODA et le conseil d’administration a donné son accord. Une équipe représentera le Canada au Championnat sud-américain Optimist 2021 à Mar del Plata, en Argentine, du 11 au 18 décembre.
En 2020, une équipe canadienne de neuf (9) marins a été inscrite pour participer au Championnat sud-américain Optimist. En raison de la Covid, l’événement a été reporté quelques jours seulement avant son début en mars 2020.
Un processus de sélection d’équipe a été initié en août 2021, cinq (5) athlètes ont été sélectionnés au cours de ce processus. CODA a maintenu ses neuf (9) inscriptions payées de 2020 et souhaite envoyer une équipe complète en Argentine.
Un nouveau processus de sélection commence maintenant et se termine le dimanche 31 octobre à 23h59 HAE. Le comité des équipes internationales est à la recherche de quatre (4) ou cinq (5) athlètes pour compléter l’équipe. Afin de respecter le ratio des genres, la prochaine place disponible doit aller obligatoirement à une “Opti Girl”.
