There will be a maximum of 60 sailors representing regions across Canada. The application process is still open for Optimist sailors. Participants must be CODA members in good standing and be born in 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010 or 2011. Please note that only participants aged 11 or over at the time of the international event will be selected in an international team. This event is aimed at experienced and high-performance sailors. Interested parties may apply HERE.

Practice Races: will occur Saturday.

Vaccination: *Updated September 12:

The Provincial Government announced on Wednesday, Sept 1, it will require people to be fully vaccinated and provide proof of their vaccination status to access certain businesses and settings, such as gyms and indoor dining facilities. Since the beginning of the pandemic RCYC has followed public health advice and observed all government directives. Therefore, effective September 22, 2021, all Members, employees, contractors, and guests who are eligible to be vaccinated against COVID-19 must have shown proof of full vaccination (two doses plus 14 days) to the Club or have been granted an accommodation by the Club to be able to enter either the City or Island facilities. Children under the age of 12 are not yet eligible for the COVID-19 vaccine and are therefore exempt from this policy.

All participants and accompanying parties eligible to be vaccinated against COVID-19 must present full proof of vaccination (two doses plus 14 days) in order to access RCYC facilities. Proof of vaccination and photo ID will be required.

RCYC recognizes that not everyone will be able to comply and accommodations due to medical or religious reasons will be granted following consideration of an application to the Club. If granted, the Club reserves the right to impose terms of the accommodation that will protect other Members and Staff. For medical accommodations, we request a doctor’s note for confirmation and for religious accommodations, we ask for a letter from a recognized leader of your religious organization. Please submit requests directly to Cory Anderson, Assistant General Manager at [email protected]

Financial Aid: We recognize that this is an unexpected expense, and some sailors from either edge of the country have already used budgets to travel to CORK in lieu of Opti Canadians being held in Nova Scotia. Financial aid will be made available to out of town sailors and coaches. More information will be forthcoming. Please contact ;” href=”mailto:[email protected]”>[email protected] with any questions.

Charter Boats: We are seeking local Ontario sailors who would be willing to privately charter their Optis to out of town sailors for this event. Please contact [email protected] if you have a boat available.

The Opportunity: Our goal is to hold a safe and fair national qualifier in a central location with financial aid provided to out of town sailors. Given the fluid situation with COVID and travel, we do recommend that your travel bookings be refundable. We have worked very hard to enable top Opti sailors the best chance available to be able to qualify for international events and are grateful to RCYC for enabling and supporting this qualifier.
