IODA has received a request from the Organizing Committee of the 2021 Optimist South American Championship taking place in Mar del Plata, ARG, to change in the dates of the championship from November 6-13th to December 11-18th.
Currently there are restrictions imposed by the Argentina Authorities limiting flights due to the COVID 19 pandemic, which causes inconveniences in the acquisition of both outbound and return tickets.
Following discussions with several authorities in Argentina, the Organizing Committee estimates that these type of restrictions will be eliminated in mid-November of this year, which marks the beginning of summer and school holidays. By moving the dates to December, it should be easier for the teams to attend the Championship without major inconveniences and with lower costs.
The IODA Executive Committee has considered the request and approves the change in the dates of the 2021 Optimist South American Championship to December 11-18th.

IODA believes that the move in dates will help teams from around the region to participate in the championship and ensure its success. We look forward to coming to Mar del Plata, ARG in December.

South Americans in Argentina was unfortunately postponed due to COVID. It has been rescheduled to November 6-13, 2021 in Mar del Plata, Argentina. The International Teams Committee has reached out to the original team and has sought the interest of the top ranked sailors of the 2019 Canadian Optimist Championship. We have received only one affirmative response.
Travel Advisory: At present time the travel advisory remains to avoid non-essential travel outside of Canada.
SUDs Team 2021 SELECTION PROCESS PROPOSAL:
The intention of the International Teams Committee remains to send a team if the federal travel advisory permits non-essential travel to Argentina by September 8th, 2021. After this date, the committee has agreed to forfeit Canada’s reserved places and seek reimbursement from the host.
Application: We propose the following process to select the 2021 SUDs team that can be composed of up to ten (10) sailors while respecting the gender ratios (please see below). Presently, entry fees are paid for nine (9) sailors and three (3) accompanying adults.
The ITC will be implementing an application process based on the one Sail Canada used for the 2021 Youth Championship. This exceptional process will be open to all Canadian Optimist sailors who are active members of CODA born between 2006 and 2009. In order to facilitate air travel, it will be required that all athletes and accompanying adults be fully vaccinated with an approved vaccine for Argentina.

Deadline: The deadline for reception of applications will be set to September 8th, 2021.
Competitors: We have compared the 2021 CORK Opti and the 2019 COC results and have come to the conclusion that the latter are no longer relevant, and it would be unfair to use these to create a team to send to 2021 SUDs.
Although the results of CORK Opti may be a good indication of the level and ranking of Canadian sailors, we deem it unfair to our membership to use solely these results to determine a team for 2021 SUDs since the 2021 CORK Opti event was originally capped, and inter-provincial travel restrictions existed when it was announced.

Les Sud-Américains en Argentine ont malheureusement été reportés en raison de COVID. Il a été reporté du 6 au 13 novembre 2021 à Mar del Plata, en Argentine. Le comité des équipes internationales a contacté l’équipe d’origine et a recherché l’intérêt des marins les mieux classés du Championnat canadien Optimiste 2019. Nous n’avons reçu qu’une seule réponse affirmative.
Avis aux voyageurs : À l’heure actuelle, l’avis aux voyageurs demeure pour éviter les voyages non essentiels à l’extérieur du Canada.
PROPOSITION DE PROCESSUS DE SÉLECTION 2021 de l’équipe SUDs :
L’intention du Comité des équipes internationales demeure d’envoyer une équipe si l’avis fédéral aux voyageurs autorise les voyages non essentiels en Argentine d’ici le 8 septembre 2021. Après cette date, le comité a accepté de renoncer aux places réservées du Canada et de demander le remboursement de l’hôte.
Candidature : Nous proposons le processus suivant pour sélectionner l’équipe SUDs 2021 qui pourra être composée d’un maximum de dix (10) marins tout en respectant les ratios hommes/femmes (voir ci-dessous). Actuellement, les frais d’inscription sont payés pour neuf (9) marins et trois (3) accompagnateurs.
L’ITC mettra en œuvre un processus de demande basé sur celui utilisé par Voile Canada pour le Championnat de la jeunesse 2021. Ce processus exceptionnel sera ouvert à tous les marins Optimistes canadiens membres actifs de la CODA nés entre 2006 et 2009. Afin de faciliter les voyages en avion, il sera nécessaire que tous les athlètes et les adultes accompagnants soient entièrement vaccinés avec un vaccin approuvé pour l’Argentine.

Concurrents : Nous avons comparé les résultats du CORK Opti 2021 et du COC 2019 et sommes arrivés à la conclusion que ces derniers ne sont plus pertinents, et il serait injuste de les utiliser pour créer une équipe à envoyer aux SUD 2021.
Bien que les résultats de CORK Opti puissent être une bonne indication du niveau et du classement des marins canadiens, nous jugeons injuste pour nos membres d’utiliser uniquement ces résultats pour déterminer une équipe pour les SUD 2021 puisque l’événement CORK Opti 2021 a été initialement plafonné, et des restrictions aux déplacements interprovinciaux existaient au moment de son annonce.
